Gluten Free Bread Survey Results

1. When asked how frequently they purchase gluten free bread, the largest group of respondents noted that they typically buy it two to three times per month. There are similar numbers of people purchasing gluten free bread about once a week and less than once a month.

2. About one quarter of survey respondents have purchased gluten free bread online, but most have not. When excluding the 11 percent of respondents who have never purchased gluten free bread, the figures change to 28 percent yes and 72 percent no.

3. 87 percent of survey respondents state that they would prefer to have gluten free bread delivered fresh to their home while 13 percent report a preference for buying it frozen from a store.

4. Two-thirds of survey respondents place more importance on their gluten free bread having a taste and feel similar to non-gluten free wheat bread than having all natural ingredients.

5. Survey respondents overwhelming stated that gluten free certification is the most important characteristic when choosing a gluten free bread. On average, gluten free certification was ranked as the most important, followed by Texture, All Natural Ingredients, Flavor, and Nutrition.

6. Unlike the previous question which asked respondents to rank characteristics, this question asked survey respondents to place a level of importance on each characteristic. Shipping cost is viewed as the most important characteristic by the majority of survey respondents, followed by price, shipping time, familiarity with the product, advertising or promotion, and finally brand name.

Comments:
1. I love that you truly care about your customers, current and potential!
2. Keep the nutrition, fiber & such high
3. I love your bread, your biscuits and rolls are also very tasty.
4. I have a 5 year old with Celiac (along with myself), he starts kindergarten in the Fall and I worry about what to send for his lunch so favorable bread that holds up is very important.
5. We have two people who live in our household who have Celiac. We make or purchase our own gluten free bread. The texture and taste are usually somewhat lacking.

The Scoop- July 2010

Around the World Gourmet has been providing people with delicious all natural food since 2005, but there is always something new going on around here. Last week we had the opportunity to attend the Ohio Food Summit. This was an event put together by the Ohio Department of Agriculture to promote links between food producers, distributors, and retailers. For a current store listing go to www.aroundtheworldgourmet.com

Recently we were awarded grants from the Center for Innovative Food Technology (CIFT) that will allow us to provide our customers with new products in 2011 and 2012. The purpose of the research is to develop better tasting, better quality gluten-free pasta, tortilla wraps, pizza crusts, and a high fiber bread with a prebiotic.
The company is currently working on formulations for these products and conducting sensory evaluations, which is a little more detailed than taste testings. Sensory evaluations also include the other senses such as look, feel and smell. If you'd like to participate in the sensory evaluations, email us at sales@aroundtheworldgourmet.com.
